Nick Landon is a versatile drummer and educator with nearly a decade of experience performing and studying across a wide range of styles including jazz, rock, funk, Latin, hip hop, and K-pop. He began his musical journey in Minneapolis under the mentorship of jazz guitarist and NEC graduate Paul Renz, quickly earning recognition as one of the top young drummers in the Twin Cities. His early career included performances at local jazz staples like Jazz Central Studios and The Dakota Jazz Club.
Nick is currently pursuing a degree in Music Education at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, where he previously studied Jazz Performance under esteemed faculty including Victor Goines, Darius Hampton, and Kevin Fort. He integrates the latest pedagogical techniques from his coursework into his private teaching, creating structured, responsive, and engaging lessons for students of all levels.
In addition to teaching, Nick remains an active performer. He plays regularly in Northwestern’s Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts pit orchestras and freelances with student and local bands throughout Evanston and Chicago, appearing at venues such as Beat Kitchen. He continues his advanced drum studies with renowned jazz drummer Willie Jones III.
Nick brings a student-centered, adaptable approach to his teaching, helping drummers build strong technical foundations while exploring the music they love. Whether working on grooves, improvisation, or ensemble skills, Nick’s lessons are grounded in creativity, discipline, and a genuine passion for music.
